The Blessed Man

Psalm 1

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD;
and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4 The ungodly are not so:
but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous:
but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

I was just thinking about this chapter yesterday. I work at a Gospel Mission, and one of our reoccuring problems is drug dealers bringing their junk (either their drugs or their dealings) in or around the Mission. It seems every few months we need to seriously crack down on this again. In the last couple of days, we took steps to refuse certain clients our services. We also have to take steps to warn other clients about their close contacts with these dealers. Sometimes someone gets in trouble when they were not directly involved with the (suspected or proven) drug transactions taking place, and it comes out in our speaking with them. So many problems would be avoided on their end if they would just separate from this evil, just separate from those that would knowingly lead them astray - and then certain people are refused services, they would not be caught up in this with them.

1 Corinthians 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

These are my very real observations and attempts to see where the rubber meets the road. Thanks for your post, because I was wanting to read this passage today, but had not looked it up yet.

Thanks for commenting. Keep on keeping on, many people who are strung out on drugs needs ministers like you who will not give up on them and demonstrate the transforming power of Christ towards them. I will pray for your safety and ministry.
